Dancing in the Rain: Lessons Learned on my Personal Journey with PD (more at www.PDPlan4Life.com) Copyright 2013-20 Sheryl Jedlinski
With Parkinson’s Awareness Month just around the corner, my husband, Tony, and I are gifting a free, online, interactive calendar www.pdcalendar.info to the extended Parkinson’s community. This shared, single space will make it easy for anyone to view at a glance upcoming PD-related events, regardless of sponsorship or location.
Your participation is critical to the success of this grassroots initiative to “tear down the walls” that artificially separate the national PD orgs, encouraging wasteful duplication of effort and limiting patients’ options. Your role is that of “Tulip Spotter,” posting details of PD events in a timely and accurate manner. The more information is posted, the more people will rely on PD Calendar. Going forward, our hope is that before setting dates for events, the orgs and other groups will check PD Calendar to avoid scheduling conflicts.
PD Calendar does not belong to nor reside on any org’s web site. To further ensure its unique identity, my www.pdplan4life.com co-founder, Jean Burns, gave it a rainbow of colors and incorporated the PD Tulip into the design. Still, the orgs have allowed the site to languish for the past five years, posting only a handful of events. We have no more time to waste, and no one knows that better than people living with Parkinson’s. That’s why we are opening it up to you.
When I shared my dream on Facebook that the national orgs will combine into one, many of you responded that you wanted to help make this a reality. Populating the PD Calendar with Parkinson’s Awareness Month activities is an easy first step. It also conveys our message that we are: One community working towards one set of common goals. Those who are working on our behalf must accept this approach as well.
To get started, click on the Become a Tulip Spotter link under the Actions menu on the right side of the page, just below the masthead. Complete and submit the form that opens, and you will receive an e-mail shortly confirming your participation in PD Calendar. Use the username and password in that e-mail to log in by clicking Administrator Login and following the simple instructions there to post events.
A collaborative effort between Konoso LLC and pdplan4life.com, www.PDCalendar.info is a gift to the extended Parkinson’s community. To learn more, e-mail Sheryl or Tony Jedlinski at email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org
Wow. Ambitious and so necessary; a logical next step in the effort to bring together the many organizations within the PD community. Congrats to you and Tony for taking the initiative and I love Jean’s graphics. Rock on, ladies.
What a terrific idea. This has been a long time coming. I hope it becomes a huge success.
Thank you Sheryl, Tony and Jean for all your hard work to unify the PD community and create a space to share events! Hugs to you all!
